TIC Network and the Melanie J. Powell Memorial Fund have chosen to combine golf tournaments for 2010.  We recognize that we have many players and sponsors who patronize both charities.  In this economic downturn, we hope that by combining our tournament fundraisers we would enable our dedicated sponsors, players and volunteers to continue their charitable giving.

Monies received during this fundraiser will be split equally between the TIC Network and the Melanie J. Powell Memorial Fund.  TIC Network will use the monies raised to purchase receivers for our listening audience and assist with the funding of technology updates.  The Melanie J. Powell Memorial Fund will provide financial assistance to victims of drunk driving accidents and graduates of Marshfield High School, Melanie’s alma mater. 

Ron Bersani is the common thread between these two organizations.  Ron has been with TIC since they sent their first transmission over 32 years ago and he spearheaded the enactment of Melanie’s Law within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to toughen drunk driving laws.

On behalf of Ron Bersani, the extended Powell Family, and the TIC Network Employees and Board we extend our deepest gratitude to our devoted players, donors, and volunteers who have been so dedicated to our charities through the years.  Please accept our sincere thanks.  We look forward to having you join us to support the TIC Network and the Melanie J. On June 25th, the Third Annual Melanie Powell Golf Tournament was held at Widow’s Walk Golf Course in Scituate. The day was absolutely gorgeous and the results were even better!

$14,000 was raised to help the fund carry out its’ two-fold mission of providing assistance to victims of drunken driving and to assist graduates of Marshfield High School pursue secondary education. After the day’s outing, participants and volunteers gathered at beautiful Scituate Country Club for an outstanding dinner and awards ceremony. A special part of this year’s event was the opportunity to thank the Melia family for their devotion to making our roads safer through their efforts in lobbying for Melanie’s Law. Ed Melia, who passed away this year, was a tireless advocate who spent many long days at the State House during the summer of 2005. No one who ever met Ed will ever forget him. His quest in life was to “be a citizen”. No one ever did it better.
