The Melanie Powell Memorial Fund has two missions.
Melanie J. Powell Memorial Fund Guidelines

The Fund provides financial assistance to victims of drunken driving crashes and scholarships to graduates of Marshfield High School.

2008 Scholarship Recipients

Katie Conway: Katie will attend Salve Regina to pursue a career in nursing. Katie ranked 202 in her class. Katie has been active in cheering, basketball, dancing and rugby during her high school career. Katie comes from a family that has provided foster care for many children and she has been a willing and active part of that commitment. Katie has worked throughout her high school years to help provide support for her single Mom and to save for her education.

Jacquelyn Fletcher: Jacquelyn is attending the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. Jackie achieved a rank of 36 out of a class of 308 at Marshfield High School. She will be pursuing a career in the medical field with a particular interest in nutrition and the treatment of diabetes. Jackie is one of five children. She has been active as a member of the National Honor Society, Students Taking Action and as a stage manager in the drama club. She received the Excellency award in math in her junior year and for nutrition in her sophomore year. Her interests include cooking, movies and the theater and music of every genre.

Nicholas Nickerson: Nick will be attending the Universal Technical Institute to pursue a carrier as an automotive technician. Nick has worked hard to overcome learning disabilities and has always displayed a mechanical talent. He has been active as a member of the baseball, football and winter track teams in high school and as a member of the Key Club. He was the 2007 Coaches Award Winner on the football team. He has participated in the Kiwanis Christmas Tree Sale and as a coach in the Marshfield Youth Football League.

Jordan Perry: Jordan ranked 101st out of a class of 308 at Marshfield High School. She comes from a family of five and has an older sister in college. During high school Jordan was a member of the soccer, basketball and softball teams. She also was a Student Council member, peer leader, Key Club Officer and participated in the Key Club Walk-A-Thon, dinner for the elderly, Project Reach, Community Christmas Drive, Coats for Kids, Peer Ministry and found time to volunteer at Father Bill’s. She was the Most Valuable Player on the soccer team as a senior. She loves to play sports, work out, read and babysit. She is attending the University of New Hampshire.

Nicholas White: Nick was ranked 145th in a class of 308 at Marshfield High School. Nick will be attending Bryant with a focus on finance. Nick achieved perfect attendance during his high school career and was a member of the football and lacrosse teams. He was a co-organizer of a golf tournament that raised $50,000 to benefit the Brain Tumor Foundation. During high school Nick not only achieved perfect attendance but also worked 15 – 20 hours weekly to save for college. His special interest is skiing.

Grantmaking Philosophy/Emphasis: The mission of the Melanie J. Powell Memorial Fund is to provide assistance to the victims or the families of victims of drunk driving incidents.
Types of Support: Aid to needy individuals, families in need and, on some occasions, organizations providing victim assistance.
Geographic Focus: Plymouth County
Types of Support to Individuals and Families: Support for higher education. Support to assist with temporary hardships as a result of being the victim of a drunken driving incident including medical expenses, adaptive living expenses and emergency financial assistance.
